Other than in the single player campaign, what's the point of carrying smoke grenades?

I cant quite work out where/why you'd use them, with the possible exception of escaping from a sniper - But given you dont know where the snipers are until you're dead, that doesn't really work either.

I use them with my sniper class and sometimes my support class. I find they're good for getting out of pinned positions, confusing the enemy and generally pcensoreding people off.

Mainly for objective based gamemodes. Cover for planting the bomb in Search and Destroy/Demolition, or even for defusing the bomb. Capturing HQ, Flags etc.

Yep, very handy for someone in the team to have (and use) them.

You can also get a team mate to cover an area with smoke and use the thermal sight to see through it - requires a bit of coordination though, so not likely seen in public matches!

Yeah, this basically.

I also use them sometimes for collecting a care package.
And also have them on my "anti air" build (along with Stinger, Slight of hand pro, Cold Blooded, Ninja) so that I can hide myself (from heat/heartbeat and light!) while I get a couple of shots in on the air support.

Chuck one to the left then flank from the right. The target is 9 times out of ten looking at the smoke not your knife about to go into their back.

It's this, how much of a noob are you? Smoke is the best distraction as 99% of people will expect you to emerge through it!

Great reasons to use smoke mentioned so far. I liek to use it to 'block off' certain paths, corridors.

A particular favourite use of mine is to save your team mates. If I have useless idiots on my team I will throw a smoke at the begining of certain maps. i.e. Mansion - when starting at the bottom of the hill so they dont get picked off. The rooftop level with helipad so they cant get sniped straight away.

Finally if the enemy has a sniper in a good place you can stop them by smkoking them out. i.e. top of cliff in desert level, or bunkers in desert level. Maybe even the house in the mansion level.

I've often thought whats the point of them also. OK as mentioned, whilst planting a bomb or capturing an area it "could" be useful but I would have thought the noobing clan would just noob the area because there's smoke there. To counteract the sniper theory, snipers often use Thermal so wouldn't that put it as an advantage to them. It seems only on the odd occasion Smoke would come in useful BUT Flashes are ALWAYS useful.

You never know how flashed someone is, it can last a second or 10 or so, stun is sometimes better, they can see you there but not turn quick enough to shoot you.

Playing HC S&D i threw some smoke to cover Jonnauk when he was planting a bomb. Unfortunately i was a little too accurate, smacked him on the head and killed him, sorry Johnnauk, hehe.

I have smoke with nearly every class and i find it useful. I nearly always use cold blooded so thermal doesn't help against me.

Never got on with flash grenades, all you have to do is look in a different direction then pick them off. Also smoke lasts a while, so as others say you can run round the other way and smack them.

Used to use it loads in capture the flag, HQ etc especially when working with your own team, pop smoke, crawl in, team mate pops 2nd smoke, HQ captured, 3rd smoke gives exit to save camping distance to pop them off as they try and get the HQ back.

I have smoke on all my set ups.

Also love the pop smoke to right, run around left and stab him while he's looking for you in the clearing mist.
