I was just watching one of those progs on cable tv about kit cars.

A guy who'd built a GT40 replica mentioned that he'd used the single 120 deg wiper from a JCB.

Might be worth investigating. scratchchin

You can already purchase single wiper kits for Wedges off ebay sonar or atleast I did a year ago!!!

Extending the water nozzle to the actual wiper.

Often wondered about some Mercs with the cam that throws the blade into the corners. No decent scrapers around here to have a shufty.

Shouldn't be too difficult to engineer; it's only a pantograph...

I burnt out my motor and the replacement didn't have the park bits. I found it very difficult to get it sorted. There are a few possible other cars with single wipers but the motors all seem to need a lot of space.

Aye but the problem is the size of the hub. I think the area on a merc is a bit more. So the hub (or whatever the right term is) might take up a bit of the screen, more than is needed. Was more interested in the size first. Then the doability. But then I get a funny feeling it would drive you quakers doing the corners all the while.

Edit. Pantograph, have to refresh my memory there.

Edit 2. Ah. Gotcha.

Citroën BX that is a thought! Especially for a LHD wedge....
Any rear screen wiper setups that could be looked at as an alternative as well? Some sweep a lot of degrees which could be a good start.

2 different versions of motor involved here...early motors with the screw in park switch are a little painful in that the brush set is part of the park switch along with the armature and main gear are all obsolete, but then these can be changed for the later units BUT in my experience (and I recondition units for TVR world 1983-2000) wedge wiper motors rarely suffer failures (units I seen are more likely to have been broken by the arm having been abused).

Current crop of Pantographs for sale: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570...

That's another idea you've just given me.

Oh, wait a minute, I already have a single wiper idea

That is the 14 watt version of the motor and does not fit the TVR which is an all round larger motor.

There are 3 basic motors 14W 16W and 27W. Ours is the 16W and is shared with TR7s Stags and Scimitar. The Wedge gearwheel is 170 degrees TR7 is about 130

If you do lose your motor always keep hold of the geqrwheel and the gear at the wiper end unless you fancy double wipers. I have thought about it!

There are 3 basic motors fitted to TVR's 14W 16W and 29W...1969-80 run the 14W ...early Tasmins (1980-84) use the 16W with 165 degrees, when the TVR S comes along with twin wipers this is upgraded (29W and 130 degrees). The differences are that the 16W has a single piece magnet casing along with a screw-on park switch/brush set combined ....the later 350-450 use the stronger TVR bespoke 29W and 170 degree unit which has a 2 piece magnet housing, clip on park switch along with a coarse tooth gearwheel and armature set.

Does it make the car go faster or stop faster....I build these most days, BUT these are a legal requirement that don't do either. IMHO pay attention to what the wipers are doing, deal with the issues prior to them failing and they are sensible cost wise to refurbish...a little bit of mechanical sympathy goes along way. Adrian@
