maybe i'm easily amused:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2472171599&indexURL=3&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

quote: The corvette was americas first muscle sports car with a V8 5.7 engine at 350bhp and 0-60 in aorund 4.5secs

Coul anyone tell me what 1978 Corvette had a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds? I thought I knew about vettes but maybe not...

Don't you love this part: "with a little attention this car could be deemed back to show winner condition with just a respray, interior, and other very little jobs."

Or my version "could be a show winner with work to body, paint, brakes, engine, interior, drivetrain..."

Anyone want to buy an '84 C4, "could be a Z06 if it was a completely different car..."

Even the optional 1978 L82 high-performance 350-cid V-8 only produced 220 hp (12,739 197 Corvettes had it fitted)

Not surprisingly. the seller has ended the auction early to sell to the highest mug, er...bidder. Nearly £5k for that - must be mental. Have you seen what the current dollar exchange rate will buy you from the States?

Not much to go on, but I would say that the buyer has spent £5k on a heap of trouble.

Not too sure how Ebay works but the way it looks to me is the winner hasn't stumped up yet...
There's still time for this poor soul to be saved.

Consider yourself lucky - unfortunately I know how it works and have been buying Corvette diecast models from Ebay over the last 15 months. Have acquired 65 so far and I'm still buying. Dread to think how much I've spent (not on the cost of the models but the postage cost of shipping them from all over the world). To save post I did have several 1:18 models bought in the States sent to my sister who lives in California and I brought them back in suitcases when I next visited her. This was just after 9/11 so security was tight and my baggage was searched. One of the models had traces of a "suspicious substance" on it which caused a few difficulies with US customs to say the least. I guess that one of the sellers was either a junkie or bomb maker but customs were pointing the finger of guilt at me - took some explaining.........
The main risk of ebay is the integrity of the buyers and sellers - so far I have had no problems whatsoever.

Looks like a sound investment.......or maybe not. Interesting hood on the car, not sure if that paint was original. Anyone know?

Nige - You should've asked before you put that last big bid in, too late now buddy! (Knowing you're in funds!)

Richard - Yes, sounds like you've got a bit of an addiction going there. Perhaps you should seek some conselling, or is that the missus's job! Actually I'm pretty safe from internet purchases as, being based in Moscow for now, I'm certain that not one single purchase would ever arrive or at least be intact on delivery!

Thats the same hood that was on that ole banger of a "Boss 429 71 Mustang" .
They are called the "Holiday Hood",so called as they are made to fit certain size suit cases on the the air cleaner for extra stowage.

How true, and closely related to the long tail Le Mans cars which had an extra large boot/trunk to accomodate the team's camping gear for the weekend.
