"Signal Switch-Off"
Discussion
I know the principle has been tried on mainland Europe before, but interesting to see it on our shores:

Interestingly, the traffic lights at the services roundabout in exeter failed the other day, and traffic moved much more smoothly then when the traffic lights were on.
I think they should be a no no on roundabouts.
Good idea though. Especially at night. We've all waited for a set of timed lights to go to green whilst waiting for the ghost traffic to come out of the closed park and ride car park.

In Harlow, Essex they've been buggering up a roundabout for nearly a year now - they're replacing it with traffic lights I think (ffs).
Since they've had temp lights and a roundabout configuration during different phases of work it's very clear the lights increase congestion enormously.
Utterly useless.
