Never seen fuel this cheap
Discussion
Just found this link on another forum, not entirely sure how it works though? have a look and tell me what you think.

Apart from the obvious typo re: the price, this could just work!
The problems will be:
1. Them getting enough punters together to make it worth their while, hence all the "when we go live" etc... get-outs on their site.
2. Getting enough forecourts to sign up for "storing" the fuel.
3. You pay in advance and they make extra cash by investing your money!
4. It all goes tits up when Gordon changes the rules and we all lose our cash...
I'd like it to work, though!

I've emailed them for answers to all of these questions...
If you pay for account credit using your credit card, you're protected by the CC company against Drax going tits up.
Wasn't Drax the bad guy in Moonraker?

Nice One CarZee. Let us know what they say. I think I speak for most when I say we could all do with some fuel at those prices
It's an interesting idea. It might work if they could get either a few big companies involved (with large co. car fleets) or perhaps a partnership with one of the fuel card firms such as All Star. If, for instance, when you use your fuel card, the amount comes off a Drax Fuel reserve, then the company will be saving money.
However, whether companies will want to tie up capital in such a scheme remains to be seen. If a company was to agree to a minimum yearly purchase, this would allow Drax to buy the fuel and arrange shipping and delivery outlets.
One to watch...

Did you get any reply yet CarZee?? I also mailed them asking them the Super Unleaded/Optimax question, but no reply yet.
Yeah - they have very few details (that they're prepared to reveal) at this stage. What they did say, though, is that where there are clusters of sunscribers, there'll most likely be clusters of petrol stations. Which means we're looking at coverage starting and spreading over the years in an equivalent pattern to mobile phone coverage.
It appears to be relatively early on and how long we wait for a launch depends on how many people join.
I'm signing up - nothing ventured & all that.
If it launches, I'll put credit on there using my visa card - that way, I'll have protection if there's a problem.
It's a shame this didn't come along 3 years ago. I've done 60k business miles in the last 3 years on mileage allowance. Could have saved a fortune and run a faster car. But now, I don't use that much of my own petrol, so there's not a massive benefit for me. Although when my new car arrives..... different story I think.
Nonetheless, so long as I don't lose anything and I get to deprive Greedy Gordo of a few quid without dropping myself in the shit, I'm up for it!

Thank you for your question regarding higher octane fuel.
At this present time we will not be offering the higher octane fuel and will only be offering standard unleaded (95RON). This may change at a later date as the service grows but not at this early stage.
I will update the FAQ page on the website to include this question and may I thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate all feed back as it helps us provide a better service.
We are sorry that we can not provide what you require at this time but please do tell your friends about us.

I'm right in assuming that what Drax are going to do is fill up road tankers somewhere in the EU with duty paid fuel and then bring it into the UK.
I reckon that they may be planning to bring in fuel from Ireland. At 45p/litre (my guess) this would leave 22p/litre to cover the running costs of a tanker/profit.
Now a tanker can hold, say, about 22000 litres.
Thats about £4800 (profit) per tanker load. now if you multiply that by 2 trips per week for 45 weeks of the year (allowing our tanker driver some holidays) then that works out to be:
£432000 per year.
Even after you take off the tanker running costs and driver(s) wages thats a lot of dosh.
Plus that is per tanker.
If this is popular then I can imagine that there would be a large fleet of tankers used. Probably on contract with a haulage firm.
Plus it gets better.
consider a car that does 10000 miles a year and gets 30mpg on petrol. I worked out (based on the guess that for a litre of UK petrol at least 56p/litre is tax) that you would be depriving greedy gordo of at least £850 in tax.
You can imagine the effect if you did 30000+ a year.
And, yes, I was bored at work today.

PS all calculations are based on guesstimated prices so could be a bit inaccurate...
