Any reason why I shouldn't use something like rad weld? 165K on the clock, savage power steering leak and various other reasons means she'll be scrapped soon-ish.. would rather not mess about putting a new rad in

Where is it leaking from?
radweld etc will sort out the little bits, like from around the thermostat gasket, but i don't think it will do a lot for a rad bar, or a hose tucked away somewhere awkward.

It's dark by the time I get back from work. Car had boiled over so the wife has left it work. Long story short, topped up with water and got her back home. Bonnet open and it's difficult to tell under torch light but its either rad or its the cast unit to the right of #3

Under torch light it's shooting water onto the fan so hard to tell...

The cast bit is the thermostat housing, you'll probably see it better in daylight.

Don't scrap it when you consider it dead, as long as it still starts let me know as I may want it as a daily hack.

Ahha, thanks for that mate. I know my way round an Audi like the back of my hand but nothing about BWMs.

Most probably needs a new jubilee clip holding the pipe to the bottom of the PAS fluid resevoir.

I've got a decent used rad here you can have for a tenner if it helps.

So, could be the water pump, which sits underneath the thremostat housing.

Turned out to be the thermostat housing that had a nice crack all the way through it. 20 notes and she's up and running. These E36's go on forever! 167K on the clock now
