I was watching 'Withnail and I' at the weekend and other half didn't get it all.

To me it's a classic.. to her, not so much smile

The other one from memory is 'The Big Lebowski'.

So what legendary films does your missus/mr dislike even though it's actually awesome?

"Lesbian sluts take it up the wrong un" the OH just does not seem to appreciate the incredible direction and cinematography. Granted the script is a bit weak though.

Just out of curiosity, with what exactly? Sort of limits their options.

I once made the mistake of laughing my way through Freddy Got Fingered with an ex.

Apparently it was "immature, stupid and disgusting" I went for "funny" myself, but hey-ho.

Went to see the Aviator with another, afterwards I was trying to be all clever about it, she came out with "It was a film about a nutter who collected his pee in jars" - she did have a point about that one.

Yep - same here... she just doesn't get it.

Clerks is another one... (in fact most View Askew films with the exception of Dogma).

Any "Austin Powers" film. Probably something to do with the presence of Liz Hurley or Heather Graham cloud9 or the fact that he portrays a bloke doing what he wants without consequence.

Layercake

every time i watch it makes more sense- but the missus just never understands it, nor does she enjoy it.

Could be because the female lead is interesting

Pretty much anything science fiction related (District 9, Moon, Serenity to name a few).

Anything with a complicated political/espionage plot - I basically end up explaining who everybody is, what they are doing, why they are doing it, what is going to happen next (errr I will check my crystal ball then.. and no I don't know what was in the case - that's not the point), what their names are, what else they have been in - to the point of missing 50% of the dialogue - at which point the film is dismissed as not making any sense rolleyes
Anything with a pretty girl in it that I mention is pretty (which to be fair is my own fault)
Anything Western/cowboys and indians
Any war film (though she enjoyed Band of Brothers and Pacific)
Any Manga / grown up animation

The nail in the coffin for a film is when the mirror and the tweezers come out and she starts plucking her eyebrows

"Freddy Got Fingered"

Having said this I think I'm in a minority of people who find this one amusing.

Apparently there are at least two of us.

So many genius scenes - sausage piano, backwards man, cheese sandwich factory - as immature and daft as it is, I can't watch it without laughing.

Highlander, although to be fair I'd not seen it since I was about 16 and it wasn't as good as I remember.

My OH is half Italian and has picked up their habit of vocalising their thoughts, so I'm always subjected to a barrage of questions during a film ("Why's he doing that? What's through that door? Does she die at the end? Who's that he's speaking to?). She doesn't want answers, but it took me ages to learn to ignore them.
