OK, so I am currently expecting to become a Dad for the first time, so thought it sensible to sell my current car and get something more sensible.

As the law of sod dictates, someone has now decided to key all up and down my car making it completely unsellable.

What I want to know is, how much do these mobile paint repair people charge to repair vandal damage, is it worth it or should i go through the insurance?

My excess is 450, but im not too worried as I have protected no claims.

Trouble is, 450 to me at the moment might as well be 4500000, because we simply dont have it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, were in Herts if it helps.. smile

It's a shame that this has already happened because you could have insured your excess for about £40. That is, you pay £40 and they'll pay the £450.

If you were to take out a policy now and then claim on it "later", even though the damage has already occured, it'd, obviously, be insurance fraud. Not something I'd do or condone myself (seriously).

For future reference - http://www.insuremyexcess.com/ for example.

No claims is a *discount*. A claim puts your renewal premium up, and right now, very significantly. The AA says that premiums are rising faster than any point in their history - for people who *haven't* made a claim. You may keep your percentage discount, but it's off a bigger number - they still sting you.

This may all be irrelevant, if the excess figure alone is a problem.

How many panels have been keyed? And what's the car/colour? It's been a while since we did a just-for-the-karma repair, and you're only in the next county - drop me a PM with some more detail, we might be able to sort something for you where you pay for the paint and pizza. smile

If you can't afford the £450, would you get much luck if you sold it as is, asking price less the amount to fix, and provide a quote from a relevant supplier?

Someone like chipsaway should be quite good for something like that, certainly a lot less than your excess.

Kind of! I used to have a £1000 excess on my X5 and insured that for about £80 (from memory). It made more than £80 difference to the original policy premium for having a larger excess so made sense.

I *think* that there is a maximum you can insure, though. £3000 might be pushing it!!
