I hear it's a forgone conclusion that they will select Booker airfield for the site. As to whether they ever get to build it is another question. Seems a shame to turn an area of grass into a stadium when there must be brown-field sites to build on but ho-hum when does sense come into it when councils get going on an ego trip.
IIRC, one of the options they'd been looking at was the land from the YMCA up to and including the Wycombe 6. Bear in mind that WDC already have a sports centre which they've been itching to redevelop for years.
I doubt that the Sands option will get the go-ahead as they'd need to re-locate a lot of businesses which would in turn raise the unemployment figures when businesses decide to close.
Abbey Barn is a possible as the ski slope has never re-opened. However, it probably won't happen as there's virtually no decent sized transport links in or out of that area.
Booker is the likely candidate but there are some large companies operating out of there who might not take kindly to having their convenient airfield demolished for a stadium.
My money's on the old sports centre being pulled down and fully redeveloped.

Don't be amazed they selected the site, they only selected inappropriate sites so Booker would look most logical. The option of 'do nothing' is being hidden in the surveys too.

TBH I'm surprised they haven't put some on the Magic Roundabout yet. That'd bring Wycombe to a halt. Oh, and some of that nice kurbing like they have around Desborough so that people can wait in the middle of the road for buses to come along. Wycombe is a hateful town which has somehow not allowed me to escape yet. I wonder sometimes if I've missed the exit sign.Gaz. said:

I'll declare my interest because I fly gliders out of Booker and it seems a real shame to trash a green area full of birds and things by building a football stadium on it.

WDC have a long and somewhat distinguished record at pissing off big businesses. Remember the Tesco plans for the Phoenix Project which got binned by WDC? This was followed by an attempt to slap a compulsory purchase order on the Tesco site by the old bus station. A project which had the backing of Tesco with a sizeable investment from them became the Eden project and look how that's turned out. Glossy shops which sell expensive st in a draughty, cold corridor with the lumbering edifice of Tesco slapped bang in the middle. The only good thing I can think of is M&S who've made a good job of building a decent store.
And then there were the plans for the removal of Abbey Way. That's still on the cards.

Wanderers only managed to afford that ground on the back of their climb up the league tables under Martin O'Neill & Laurie Sanchez when they were getting more money for being in higher leagues. IIRC, Wasps were only going to 'borrow' the ground until they could get something for themselves. Over the years, the tables have turned and Wasps are the senior partner who bring in the cash. Neither Wanderers or Wasps have enough cash to build something new, hence why WDC have got involved. They need a site which has more parking and a larger seating capacity for Wasps. I suspect the idea is to create a FA / IRB approved stadium so that they could host 'major events' which would put Wycombe on the map and (hopefully) generate revenue. This will of course be a white elephant which will eventually crumble and become the new site for Wycombe's drug dealers and pimps to hang out.

The Eden shopping centre is a bit of a half job - Tesco is an eyesore and they didn't bother closing off the ends of the precint so it is cold and windy most days. Not nice. Which is Abbey Way, and what's that all about?It's interesting some of the points highlighted in the Booker Gliding Club document to which I posted a link. Not something that many residents will have thought about but with the demise of Booker Gliding Club it is almost certain that the altitude at which Heathrow traffic passes over High Wycombe area will descend to 2,000' (currently 3,000'). Being on the fringe of what is known as the London Control Zone Booker is one of the closest gliding clubs to Heathrow and is a bit of a thorn in their side. We constantly campaign for more air space above us and they constantly argue the case for less. The current situation is a compromise reached partly I expect because the club used to be BA Gliding Club and still has a number of BA pilots flying there. With BGC gone I would expect the LTMA to drop to 2,000' because any remaining light aircraft and helicopters will happily fly at the height until they get away from the airfield. This will result in significant noise increases for residents but my guess is they won't have thought about it at all.
I loathe and despise football and everything about it...the only thing I hate more is losing pay for missing work when stuck up my fking hill when it snows because the council couldn't be arsed to grit it.

From what I've been experiencing & hearing, Eden security don't like any contractors inside the yard the t
ts insist them to park inside when 90% it can't happen because it's full of stock.The Eden centre in a way is an improvement to the town, however since the opening two years ago, traffic in Wycombe has increased quite a bit. Eden's multi-storey is nearly always full on a saturday afternoon, barriers are put up to prevent peeps driving in.
The not so usefull security staff insist on putting a barrier in a front of the tesco entrance, which results in artics stick out onto the roundabout, whilst the poor driver has to exit the cab to remove the bugger out of the way. Police I believe have been informed about it, as it causes a highway obstruction.
