Hi All, ive had a 135i msport coupe for a couple of months now but only just started to use the automatic heating option.

I set it to come on at 0800, leave the climate control set to 25 degrees and turn the car off. When i get in the car at 0830 this morning the blowers were going as planned but blowing out cold air!

I was a bit dubious as to the functionality of this as obviously without the engine going i cant imagine you will get any heat out of the system but surely this makes the whole option of automatic timed heating a waste of time and rather pointless?!?

or am i missing something and need to do something differently. The thought of getting into a warm, defrosted car in the winter mornings is an attractive thought. especially as the leather seats are so damn cold at the moment.

any help would be appreciated, Thanks people.

If you want heat from the aux blower you need to have spec'd the aux fuel burning heater however it's not avaliable in all markets. I have the same problem on my e39. Would be nice when the weather gets cold though

AFAIK you're not allowed/supposed to have an engine running without a driver, so they can't use the engine to heat the car, therefore they need a separate box that burns fuel to heat the air.

Or, what I was told was bks, and it's just cheaper to use a separate box.

makes sence although wont air con produce warm air even with the engine off?? i guess not but in theory the car has battery power so it could warm air electronically in theory. just like an electric heater at home.

oh well ill just have to brace myself when i sit back in my seat and get the deicer out of the shed for the coming months lol.

Thanks guys

Yes, but then the battery could run out. Heaters draw a lot of power.

At least with fuel, there is a known quantity and burn rate.
