Portsmouth FC are likely to fold as they can't continue trading.

So WHERE has all the money gone then?
Massively overspending on average, and in some cases very average players. John Utaka is on a reported £80k a week following a £7m transfer, his cost to Portsmouth over the term of his contract will be £23m.....He's only one of a whole squad. Hull will be next.....
As a Saints fan I am sorry to hear this. I know some fellow Saints supporters will be laughing, but this is not good for the game of football. It's a reflection that football is no longer a game but a business and sadly the Portsmouth business was mis-managed and is going bust. This is the latest in a long line of clubs (mine included) which have been awfully managed and run beyond their means. I'm sure that Portsmouth will be back as rivals to the Saints soon and in my opinion, the sooner the better.
I don't think much will come of this though, I think it is just one multi-millionaire saying to another multi-millionaire "Stop p1ssing me about and give me my fooking money!"
I must admit that I don't like the current situation, not because I'm a Saints fan, but because, during this tight time for this country they have got away with not paying the taxman(us)what they owed! That was a kick in the teeth for all of us IMO!!

Surely you're not suggesting a visiting professorship at the Venables School of Accountancy?
Perhaps a double act with Dr Storrie? In many respects it is absolutely no surprise whatsoever that this is happening - Too many shady/hopeless people involved and a relatively expensive team based around a tiny stadium. Not quite a recipe for business success.
I wonder who will be the next to fall? I'm certain that Pompey won't be the last, given the current premiership financial model.
Won't happen, some deal will be struck. The Football League & FA are petrified of a club folding as the deck of cards will come tumbling down. They'll let them struggle on for another 3 or 4 years under some blag and then when they're in the Conference let them fold in the close season.

You could be right in some sense. However, it's arguable that for the good of the game, a reasonably sizeable/well known sacrificial lamb is very necessary. The downer (aside from the obvious ones) is that it gives Platini something else to gloat about regarding the English game.ClintonB said:

There's no chance of a sacrificial lamb, Leeds didn't go out of business despite being put into administration three or four times and then bought for £1.Football will never level out as a new richer benefactor pops up just as some semblance of normality is returning to the game and completly f
