Due to car's being car testing exempt and cheap €50 tax for 30+ year old cars in Ireland I've being searching for pre 81 cars to have a look at. i've being tempted by mgb's etc but just seeing whats out there. Money wise the cheaper the better but £2000 is uppermost.

Anyone have any idea's. thanks

You could get hold of a half-decent rubber-bumper MGB GT for £1500. Mine (see profile) was £950 with a years ticket.

Volvo Amazon.

Bmw e12 (first 5).

Mercedes W108/W109 (the s-class from the '60s/'70s).

They should all be quite easy to work on, offer reliability and safety compared to other cars from the era, and have great parts supply.

If you can find a mk2 Escort in Ireland that hasn't been made rallytastic then that'd be my call.

Do you want one? I know a man with one...

Thanks but the fact that they are an iconic car here has affected the price of them and i think there's better bargains out there.

Mg's aren't a bad shout but was thinking off the wall a bit, seen a lovely saab 95 v4 estate from 75 thats pickling my intrest.

Cheers for the suggestions.

Be VERY carefull with VRT as they now inspect them and can refuse to VRT them if there not up to scratch.
Also you will need a receipt from the seller showing the date of sale and you have to VRT within a month after purchase.

My Dads trying to VRT a '79 C250 Merc at the moment and its booked in for next Thursday so i will report back with more info for you.

Could you ask your friend for a few pictures please. Is it a 2 or 4 door ?
Does it need a full resto or just a little TLC ?
Colour, milage ect....

Also the price.

Might know of someone interested.

PM me if you prefer.

Thanks.
