320D E46 '04 POOR FUEL CONSUMPTION

Hi everyone, my 320d E46 '04 has been using excessive fuel over the last few weeks. I normally return 40mpg approx mixed town and a road driving. Lately that figure has dropped to 35mpg for the same work/home journeys. The car seems to be driving as good as ever no lack of power or performance or smoke,no ruff running etc. Would anyone be able to advise what the issue/problem could be?

Did you fill up recently?

Could be the first batch of winter fuel; typically poorer consumption down to the additive which stops the fuel gelling in cold temp's.

Air con on for more time and also engine running while not moving when defrosting the screen all adds up I know mine has dropped too and traffic is heavier so males sense

was it a sudden loss of MPG or gradual loss? when was the car last serviced? oil changes and air filter changes etc can make large differences. check tyre pressures too.
