Bearing in mind I live my life as if the planet is about to explode - I have made it to 43 years of age without ever having to spend any time in hospital - apart from a few minor A&E visits and now I am kacking my pants!

Will have to have an op to fix my groin-hernia in December - am I just being a total woos!

in and out same day (ive had 2 now)
pretty uncomfortable but not the end of the world, you will be required to take it easy and not drive for a few weeks though.

Earlier this year, at the ripe old age of 32, I had my first ever op. It was for the removal of ye ol' appendix (I believe not too dissimilar from a hernia op).
I too kacked my pants at the prospect but it all went very well. The last thing I remember was being wheeled from the prep room to theatre and then I woke up back in the ward - slightly lighter.

Nothing to worry about. You'll be fine.

Hernia ops are a lot more straightforward nowadays.

Instead of leaving scarring across your stomach they can go in down the urethra (penis)

and reach the hernia that way.Just a few pain-killing jabs in your oldman to start with

then the premed and before you know it it'll be over.

There are two types of hernia, abdominal (groin) and inguinal (ball sack).

Oh...there's another but it's very rare. This is called an iguanal hernia...caused by lifting heavy lizards.

Btw, ops? Un portion du gateau. Had three in the last 2 1?2 years and still here!

Straight-forward op, nothing to worry about. Just take it easy for a few weeks afterwards (ie no hard training or rock climbing... I found wearing a harness was not good as it scrunched up the wound... I suspect rock climbing was also the reason for the hernia due to pushing a bit too hard; who knows).

I've had two aswell which was annoying given I am 23!

First one I opted for open surgery and have a 4 inch scar. Second one I had keyhole and it's left a rather obvious one inch scar just below my belly button.

Open surgery required a fair bit of recovery time. Keyhole I was back to work in 3 days and back in the gym etc after a fortnight.

There's also the paraumbilical hernia.

I've had this twice. The second time they put a mesh thing in to stop me popping out again.

Inguinal, scrotal, femoral, umbilical, epigastric, ventral, obturator, hiatus. The usual suspects here are all hernias. But it wasn't an anatomy lesson, just a joke to cheer up the OP (esp after the post about the urethral approach )

had one when i was 7. i remember not being able to walk properly for a couple of days due to the pain, but come on i was only little! scar tissue aches from time to time but i've not had a reoccurence [touch wood] and i'm 29 now.

I have had two ops - one at 24 years old and one at 25 years old (now 31)

First one was open surgery, and was one side. This took about 6 weeks to properly recover from, overnight stay.

Second was both sides, keyhole. Fully recovered with a few wierd aches and pains within about 2-3 weeks, overnight stay.

Was my first ever op so was stting myself, second time less so but still unpleasant - not as bad as your mind makes it out to be though.
