Renault 5 gt turbo
Discussion
Hi everyone, This is my Tungsten grey R5gtt, it's a little cracker and i love it.
Over all it's in great condition, just needs a few little things to tidy it up nothing major though, No rust/rot, interior is in great nick, and also have the standard alloys tucked away. Currently it's tucked away hiding from the evercloser winter. So roll on the spring i say. Thanks for looking.Comments welcome

These are great fun cars I've always wanted the Raider after I saw a very mint one at a campsite in Wales one year, my wife had a basic 5 which was always snapping clutch and throttle cables as the RHD routing was an after thought. I have a real soft spot for those old 5's and very nearly bought a Ph1 in black a few years ago and got something else instead (scirocco) which was probably the wrong decision.
Considering they are chain timed pushrod engines they knock out decent enough power and remain fairly reliable until people started messing with the boost which could be fairly easily done. Because the plastics are like something out of an Airfix kit and the metal isn't much thicker they really do surprise you with a fair turn of speed, a guy I knew had a pearl white one and it definitely was quicker than the 2.8i capri I was in at the time so long as it wasn't loaded up with passengers. The cheapness of the build quality is what gives them that nice french charm.

Crap cars, but utterly brilliant! If you can keep them reliable, they are fantastic. Much much more interesting than anything billed as a hot hatch now!
Personally, I would get a set of renualt 19 16v phase 2 wheels, a 19 16v grille ( badge is in the centre) and leave it at that. Great colour, get some of the original GT side stripes as well.
A stage one boost (14-16psi), decent intercooler, re-jetted carb, and a nice S/S exhaust should give 160-170BHP and keep it reliable. Any more and you WILL blow the head gasket!
I had a head gasket change down to six hours bonnet up to bonnet down!
Would love another one, finding an un-chavved reasonable example is very rare now, don't ruin it!
