Forward wing mirror options
Discussion
Has anyone fitted mirrors on top of the wing (fender)? I find there's a lot of head turning required to use the Canam mirrors and was considering getting something like the T-70 in the photo is wearing.
My concern is there will be too much movement in the front clip and that I won't see anything.
Thanks,
Julian

If you use a large convex mirror you should be fine. The downfall is that he image that you see will be limited in size as a result of the distance between you and the mirror.
SPA makes mirrors that should be suited for this.
They will vibarate no matter where you put them. Minimize this by making the mount sturdy and using good foam rubber cushion strip between the front clam and the passenger compartment.
I would try the position that you are considering first by using tape to mount the mirror and driving around at low speed.
Great idea LS7Tango.

Julian.....fitted my mirrors in this position for that very reason....no problem with vibration & now have mirrors in line of sight rather than having to turn head....must do mod for track work.

Yes that helps and in seaching I'm finding a lot more examples of people who are mounting them on the bulkhead as opposed to the wing. What mirrors did you use and what was your optimum placement?HTH. Simon
Thanks,
Julian
As a temporary measure I have got these. 50 quid a pair from EuropaSpares! The quality of the mirror bit is excellent and they are large enough to give really good vision. As you can see the mounting boss looks somewhat vile.
One of my winter projects is to manufacture some carbon swoopy aero Grand Am/LMP style electric mirrors.

Are they the F1 or F2 mirrors and did you have to modify the mounting by much to get the positioning correct? This is a much cheaper and easier solution to the rear view problem even if the mount looks cr*p.
A bit of GF work will soon cure that.

These are the F2 mirrors. Normal adjustment is affected in that foul looking mounting boss and the arm is easily bent if need be. The boss could be mounted underneath (through)the body so that it is less visible but for me its just a temporary fix. Great value for £50!!
As well as improved rear vision a good thing to mounting the mirrors where they are is a significant reduction in wind noise in the cockpit.

Hey Stuart, How you getting on with those 'screw-in' side windows? any problems with the seals or movement? Thinking it might be a good idea for mine...not sure yet. Howw much of a fag is it to remove and replace?cheers
Keith
The screw-in side windows are just fine and no problems. The only reason they are screwed in is that I have a fancy to race the car and the regs state that plastic side windows have to be screwed in.
