Browsing Parkers and I notice there seems to be a new categorisation of insurance groups. My Golf was a 13 but now it's listed as a 27. The Focus was a 9, now listed as 18.
MX5 was (a day or two ago) listed as 11, now showing as 22 confused

Have a missed something? Does somebody know what's up with this?

I've searched but nothing 2comes up, so apologies in advance if this is a pearoast.

The groups have gone from previously being 20, to 50.

"In 2007, the number of insurance groups was expanded from 1-20 to 1-50. Insurance companies have until December 2009 to migrate to the new 1-50 system."

Instead of 1-20 they now go 1-50, alot of places are still using (and displaying) the old rating. I think it's to be more specific at the top end, instead of something like a Veyron and an Impreza both being Group 20, they can now differ between them with 40-50 for example.

Seems like some cars have been scaled down a bit... MX-5 going from 11/20 to 22/50. My Saxo VTS has is now group 27, was previously 14.

As above, I think the new system was introduced because there was too much variance in group-20. So basically "ordinary" cars have been scaled up x2, and group 20 spread out over the top 10 of the new groups. Or something like that.

My 323ci has gone from a group 15 to a group 31.

Will this mean cheaper insurance..... I doubt it.

That would certainly be consistent with my findings. Off to check what category an Impreza WRX STI now sits in...
