E46 Head unit questions
Discussion
Sorry, yet another question about my recently aquired 330.
It's a 2000 model and is fitted with sat nav but it is the old, old style that doesn't actually have a map display. I'm not too bothered about sat nav as I have a Tom Tom anyway though I do like the look of the 'proper' BMW ones. I may not do anything in terms of an upgrade but I would like to know some options so if you don't mind I'll ask a few questions.
If I swap, the current sat nav unit to a more modern widescreen one, will the nav work?
If I swap the sat nav unit to a standard business CD one, will the car throw a fit?
If I wanted an ipod connection or even just an aux in, what will be involved and what would be the best head unit as a starting point?
Same question for a blue tooth phone connection.
Cheers all.

For a full widescreen nav choice the best pick is a mkIV DVD nav drive, and a screen. Be warned, its a LOT of work to fit it, and involves a strip of most of the interior. its not for the faint hearted, but a guy on eBay regularly sells the kit, and the loom, and the install for around the 1K mark. gives you an idea of the work!
As for Ipod, the best I know of is the Intravee kit, that fits in place of the CD changer, however I think this needs the widescreen nav - so might not be an option. alternatives are the Dice kit, and also Denison (i think)
As for the other bits, best site is to check out e46zone.com, lots of great info - Search is your friend lol

Cheers. Have asked about this on E46 Zone (thanks for the recommendation, very useful) and the news is not good. Seems these older units use an oddball connector that is not the same as any of the newer stuff. Might upgrade the speakers and leave it at that.
