The speakers in the doors of my S2 are cactus. Before I pull the door apart to get them out I thought I might find out what size they were. Can anyone fill me in? Has anyone used anything different from standard in the doors successfully?

I'm replacing the radio as well, so any tip would be appreciated.

cheers,

Ian....

Hi,

I'm currently in the process in replacing what seems to be the original stereo and speakers in my S3, which I assume wouldn't be much different to your setup. The speakers I have just taken out were 6" (Pioneers), today the majority are 6.5" (16cm). Not much of a problem as you may have to cut a little more out. The problem seems to be the depth as again the majoriry of speakers are between 42mm to 53mm. I'm assuming and hope that my original speakers weren't installed at the factory because they have been placed really close to the front of the door panel and therefore any of today's speakers will hit the door hinge! I wish people would have thought about it before they cut the hole, but I suppose at the time it was fine. Hopefully this isn't your case and therefore you can use some decent speakers. I've bought some cheaper speakers for the time being while I think of a new plan, I can't remember the size of hand, I'll look in the morning as these basically just replace the originals but are 6.5" in diameter. I'm planning of documenting the whole 'install' as it's been a bit of a knightmare. If you want any pics let me know.

As far as the unit goes, if your not totally serious about your audio (I doubt I will hear mine over the carbs anyway!) then don't get one that requires power from the unit straight to the battery (like top of the range Alpine's) as it's not easy to install. Also if you have an old unit in there, you will have to cut the slot bigger to the 'new stereo standard' size.

Cheers,

Brent.
