Does anybody know how fast a standard de-restricted e46 M3 is? How can you get it de-restricted? Thanks for the advice in advance.

Not too sure on the e46 probably around 175. Maybe quicker with a following wind and a mate pushing it biggrin e36's are good for (with enough space) 173 but it took a while to get there hehe So I'd imaging the e46 to be in similar territory.

As for getting it done, there are a few places that'll do this for you. The first that spring to mind are : http://www.amdtechnik.com/ or http://www.bmsport.com/

There are probably others out there but theses are the two that I know of.

A Thorney remap will also remove the limiter, I have a stage one to just smooth out the delivery on my CSL.

With the limiter, a e46 wil get to an indicated 170 with room and a run up (GPS 163). The engine note changes a little and it will not go faster, had my M3 in Germany on the limiter several times for up to 8 to 10 secs.

Unlimted I'm guessing a bit faster, ie close to a true 170, indicating 175?, but as already said you will need a long, long road. Only ever once troubled by having a limiter as the 996 carrera2 who was a little slower from 100 then caught up slowly and came past at 'walking pace' whilst I was on the limiter. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, porsches!

No way.

An E39 M5 maybe but not an M3... 170ish maybe a bit more.

seen 160 in both a z4mc and e46 m3 - both still pulling like a train so reckon 170-175 probably

from experience at vmax, a derestricted m3 will hit about 165-170 and not much more. CSL different matter.

To chap above, you might have seen 160, was that speedo or GPS? Also despite pulling like a train at that speed its amazing how that will very rapidly tail off.

Probably somewhere in the region of 180mph.

I had mine hard against the limiter (161mph on the GPS) at the weekend and it certainly felt like it had another 20mph or so left in it.

I don't think a CSL would be much quicker than a normal M3 at the top end. The power output is not that much higher.

I think the genuine top speed will be between 170 - 175 mph.

I was at the last Vmax, and my best trap speed was 164 mph but the car was still accelerating slowly.

There was also a chap there in a CSL who I was speaking to. His best of the day? Also 164 mph.
I'm not sure if the CSL is more or less aerodynamic with the ducktail and different front bumper?
