Painting Airboxes?

My lateish 4.5 has the shiney airboxes, they have some deep scratches and so I am thinking of spraying them over the winter.
Am hoping a small amount of filler and then some cans from Halfords of black paint will do the trick. Not sure if Gloss or Satin is the right finish. Or whether I should just pay a local body shop to do it.
any thoughts?

gloss definitely i got mine spray to black , i had it matt first then i put gloss on top matt doesnt look nice im in turkey at the moment i will send some pics when i get back on thu

I've just done mine, Halfraulds black gloss with a topping a few coats of for protection.
Ok mines a SP6 but similar under bonnet temps/ conditions.

I prepped mine myself, then took them to a local body shop for primer and 2 pack.

Close but you don;t have an exhaust manifold 5cm from the bottom of your airbox on the Speed 6.

That's true, you could put a heat shield under the boxes.

I went the full hog and got the carbon fibre ones from ACT. Mainly due to 5 of 8 inlet pipes being crushed. Look the dogs too.

Got mine sprayed at Central TVR in the Midlands as they are only 10 mins from me. Very pleased with the result, they were done in two pack paint in a gloss finish. Would be hard to replicate the finish using Halfrauds spray cans i reckon.

I have to compliment you all on those engine bays! WOW! I 'might' be able to get mine to that point once, but the thought of trying to maintain it - no chance. Impressed though!

both teresa and i are fine. I went on the long drive at the bng but this time there was no swimming and hell we even stopped for ice cream. Back in the day when men where men and sheep knew there place the only cleaning rag under the bonnet was for the dip stick ;-) . One hour cleaning is one hour less driving is my moto.
