Palm trees. They have been there since before the houses were built and we are not allowed to chop them. People always ask that.

Congrats mate. The force of the acceleration will just pin you against your seat...
Would be nice to see any pics of the RS6 is available...
I would suggest getting the windows tinted... really improves the look especially in black.Only about £100.
Good choice getting the facelift with the LED tail lights, they look great at night.

I'm 99% certain they are Cordyline trees, often wrongly mistaken for Palms. I seem to recall you asked me about my Verbena Bonariensis when I posted a pic of my new M3....

I think you're right...we have one in our back garden. Those two look like they still have some growing to do...ours is 20ft or so and hasn't stopped growing yet.

Nice M5 by the way!

How often do you water them?

Early days and all but how do you find the drive compared with the RS6? I'm about 3 or 4 weeks from my next purchase and am sure it will be very similar to your C5! smile

Very different indeed. The RS6 was like a plough, hell bent on dragging the horizon toward it no matter the obsticle. It was a fantastic all weather cruiser (perfect in the snow) and all that torque (550lb/ft) made overtaking super quick and very effortless. It was stupid fast in a straight line but really didnt feel comfortable on the bends. The fantastic engine was knocked back by the chocolate gearbox that Renn Sport had fitted and i wont miss the constant worry of it failing. A good warranty (Audi All Component if you can afford it, or Warranty Direct Extra Care) will help with releiving the worry.

The M5 however feels much more agile. Its delicate, accurate, light on its feet, nimble and really loves the bends. Its also incredibly quick in a straight line but you do need to get up into the higher revs to extract the full 507bhp. It is smaller than the RS6 (not as wide and slightly shorter) but not so small that i feel its lacking room. Its more likely the RS6 had more room than it really needed. Ive heard stories about the reliability of the SMG Box but surely there's no way it can be as much of risk as the RS6. The interior finish of the RS6 is superb and very hard wearing, and i'd say it was on par with the newer M5, just slightly different in feel. Technology wise the M5 is streets ahead.

To be honest, the similarities between the two cars only go as far as them both being big estates and both having 4 wheels. Its a whole different experience and im gonna love learning the traits of the Bavarian beast. The sound track of the V10 will help too. The RS6 was fantastic in every way and i wouldnt count it out based on the risky gearbox. If you get a good one with plenty of service history then you should be ok. The DRC suspension was also terrible so make sure you find one with coilovers fitted. At £1k a corner DRC is a very expensive and regular money drain. Warranties are crucial, get one and you'll be home and dry.

If you need any advice or help choosing one then feel to message me. There is also plenty of info on rs246.com and the locals are very friendly. I'd always buy one from an enthusiasts forum so the first place i'd look is the 'for sale' section of 246.

Is that the car that was on PH classified pictured infront of an office (Denton and Nickels I think)

I notice it is now sold and was wondering if it is now on your drive.

FWIW I think it looked excellent value, considering the apparant rarity of these things, and wish you many miles of happy motoring!

Many thanks for the extensive response Eddie.

I just love the idea of a sleeper estate with a V8 Milly Res burble and the C5 RS6 fits. . .perfectly! Out of interest do you feel that a (MRC for instance) remap is worth it given that it may affect the already suspect cog-box?

The MRC remap is very gentle on the box considering the additional power and torque. Minhea, the Belgian tuning geek at MRC is an absoloute god in the mapping world and can custom make a map for you. Mine was designed to be progressive and reliable with a big surge as you get past 4k. MTM and other generic maps tend to be quite brutal and you'll find the clutch pack taking a beating every time you put your foot down. MRC are definately the people to see.

Oh, and is it worth it? Hell yeah!! 0-60 in 4.0s is not something to be sniffed at.

Yeah, thats the one. It was up at £32k when i first went to see it (last month some time). He wasnt budging on price so i kept it on the back burner. As he was quite a nice guy and was a bit of a car nut we kept in touch. With little interest over the month he decided to put it in for possible px. At the same time he phoned me and gave me a deadline should i want to beat the dealer and grab a bargain. And thats what i did. I got a mint, low mileage, top spec E61 with fresh main service, new brakes and mot for trade in price. He's absolutley gutted ive taken it off his hands. His next car is going to be a diesel. You can imagine how much thats gonna sting.

Lovely car, hope you are still enjoying it? I'm getting more and more tempted by one of these now I've sold my XKR and am running around in a 325i Touring (nice though the Touring is I do miss 400bhp). Have been thinking about two cars again but the M5 Touring would fill my hooning needs and sensible family/dog needs!

Interested to know how you get on with it over the coming months. Are you considering winter tyres as I guess you'll miss the 4 wheel drive of the Audi in a couple of months? My 325i is next to rubbish in the snow.

Cheers,
Graham

No, i wont be doing the winter tyres thing. Im a snow and ice driving instructor (military) so if i cant drive the M5 in the snow then nobody can. Its all down to basic skills and in my experience, any car can be driven in the snow / on ice. The RS6 was excellent in these conditions, that quattro system is pure genius.

I should really give lessons. It was embarrasing last year to see so many people stuck and housebound in a pathetic amount of snow. I spent alot of my time driving my nieghbours / friends / stranded peoples cars out of thier driveways and onto the gritted roads for them. Got every car out first time.
