Don't you love it when the 906,832nd time you strike a match, and as you wave it to blow it out, it snaps and the lit head falls on the carpet? I know I do.

As a result I have a half inch dark mark in the middle of a light coloured carpet where the fibres have burnt, melted and discoloured.

The only thing I can think of is to trim off the burnt tips of the fibres with some nail scissors. Any other ideas please?

Get a dog, and train it to sit there.

Sorry to hear this but, know when next choosing a carpet to go for a more burn-friendly colour. wink
Depending on how deep into the pile the burn has gone; might be better to draw a craft-type blade, at ninety degrees to carpet, and shave off the offending burnt bits.

I've done this frown

Only solution was to buy a rug to hide it.

Burn the rest of the carpet so it matches.

Use a scalpel or craft knife to cut out that piece of the carpet. Replace it with an identically shaped piece cut from a hidden area. (Inside a cupboard or under a sofa for example).

Find an irregular shaped template, like a 50p or something without any really "sharp" corners Hold it firm over the mark and cut round carefully with a stanley knife and fresh blade, flip blade around and repeat underneath the sofa, glue good patch into carpet and replace burned bit under the sofa! Job done!

Rather than using a craft knife, try using an old disposable razor. As it's designed to take small amounts of stubble from your face then taken small amounts of burnt carpet is a doddle. Just keep running over the area until the burnt bits have gone!!

Good luck.
