Hi all, can anyone recommend a good auto sparky working in the East Mids (before anyone mentions Carl Baker, I don't want or have time to drive all the way down to the South)?
My '95 Chimaera 400's fuel pump cut out on a dual carriageway yesterday and wouldn't restart. On cranking the ignition the pump wouldn't prime, so each time I turned it over the engine would catch but immediately die. Very nice and patient AA chap effected a running repair which involved wiring the pump direct to the battery with inline fuse, so it's not the pump itself. Also kept blowing 30A fuse in the box during the course of his investigations before the bypass fix. This is way beyond ny numpty problem solving abilities so I need help urgently.
If it was someone in Leicester that would be even better.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Try a TVR indie - am sure they will be able to fix it.

have you tried swapping the relay. Others will tell you which one it is.

Sounds like fuel pump relays..Have a look in the wiring over the battery box for 2 relays, ally coloured about 1" square, sometimes with yellowy/orange stripe, either buy a couple more from auto factors or if you want to test them, and it may be easier with another persons help, go through your starting regime whilst holding the relay and when the pump usually primes you should feel the relay click now try the other one. The question is has the recovery mans wiring work been put back to pre breakdown standard? If not the relays remain diverted I guess?

Before you spend any money, have a look under the car and check the spade connector hasn't fallen off the pump.

A common problem.

If you need any help or assistance I'm in Loughborough.

Cheers

Don't call out a mobile one.

Charged me £55 for ten minutes and two wires soldered to two pins.

Before you lot start, I couldn't source the pins...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I shall work through them. Think the relays were clicking ok but will get them rechecked. Dom at Power is always the other option and that's where my servicing is done anyway. If the spade connector had come off the pump, it wouldn't work at all would it...?
