ap clutch how much power

getting 2.5 engine rebuilt with forged pistons and rods shot peened gearbox
how much power can clutch take, looking at 400 bhp approx
also getting a pair of gt28 turbos

STD AP clutch is good for 420lbft of torque ,bhp is not too much if a issue it's torque that. Kills it !!! You can get it upgraded by helix , with a new plate should be good for 500lbft !! P

Helix said that the upgrade gives 20% more . Didn't think std it was that high. well happy now as mine (for £309) is now upgraded

To be honest Steve, a new clutch i think is about 240 anyway so not much more for an upgrade.

Sounds like thats the way to go, just a thought has anyone fitted a paddle clutch, it was just a option
from my engine builder.

Went to spa in the nob few weeks ago for the masters 6 hours lods of great cars eg lola t70 cobras jags
great 3 days all for £25 .

Had the paddle in mine, feels much the same with only a small amount of occasional judder to remind it's not STD.

Gt28s are way overkill for 400 bhp, go fir gt25 and have even better spool and still 550 bhp potential. IMO

I Have the 6sp helix paddle clutch in mine which was £232incl from Jetstream but you also need the modifacation to the clutch cover plate another £149incl and lastly you need to change the slave cylinder at a cost of £220incl
Total £601 from Jetstream and as Andy said apart from the occasional judder its been great on and off track and thats running 510lb torque 550bhp

thanks guys havent ordered turbos yet so will have a chat about what you have said.
going back to clutch option,does paddle clutch last as long as uprated ap type under normal driving.
any extra stress on gearbox

Clutch is same you just have options for which plate to use, above 500 ftlb you need the paddle plate, for sub 450ftlb go for the one down.... I've had all 3 and whilst the paddle is fine is does judder a little and def won't last as long.
I recommend jtstream rather than mardi grass ( used both) as better service imho.

Btw the 5 speed is slightly cheaper as the release bearing is around 140 less than the 6 speed one and is an off the shelf ford part....

yes hence Im developing a triple plate unit for my car now.... be the 4th clutch in my car this year despite not a single one of them failing

Mine so far has never slipped and I really put it through its paces on the track,
maybe it helps its only had 1k miles done so far but its been spot on.

I think the paddle works great on track and is well proven there in the race car... its when your in high gear on motorway and floor it which isnt surprising as its not rated to beyond 500ftlb.

Im only upgrading as a precaution and because I was told it couldn't be done
