Why can’t I pay my RFL monthly...
Discussion
As the title says really....
Now that Gov’t has finally shoved through the (IMHO, immoral) emission based RFL fees, I am faced with having to pay more than double Road Tax for my 2 cars.
I can pay my TV licence monthly
I can pay more council Tax monthly
So, why not give the option to pay my RFL monthly?
With all the ANPR stuff around nowadays, plus the annual application to prove Insurance and MOT Etc, any argument about “checks” doesn’t wash with me.
So why not?
Or have I missed something

Its an outdated tax, stick it on fuel then you cant avoid it and you pay weekly or whenever. Another system abolished will also save some cash for the government.
Can you imagine the outrage when fuel instantly goes to £1.50 a litre overnight?Simplification is needed in all taxation!

Can you imagine the outrage when fuel instantly goes to £1.50 a litre overnight? We pay road tax not for maintaining the roads but to prop up the economy

Guernsey got rid of tax discs in 2007 if I remember correctly. Petrol prices went up and cars displayed an insurance disn instead. I didn't mind the fuel increase was about 20p a litre if I remember correctly. Saved a lot of hastle when tax disc needed renewed.
The extra cost of 20p/litre on fuel would be a lot more than a tax disc. Though on Guernsey you can't exactly do mileage!RosscoPCole said:

We are getting off subject here, the OP wants to know why he can not pay for his road tax monthly. There is no reason why the government could not implement this. Maybe because RFL used to be a relatively small amount of money there was not need to spread the payment but now some road tax is so exorbitant there is a case to easy the burden. For example my RFL is nearly as much as my insurance
As for the suggestion we can down size, well yes we could walk to work and wear sack cloth. Then the government would have to tax us another way

Tv licence is also a small amount per annum plus also PCM.
I'd say the cost to set it up and complexity of multiple rates and starting and stopping would create a cottage industry.
Put it all on fuel... Well I'd rather all costs to be on fuel even the mot that way those idiots who drive without mots have fewer reasons not to get it done. Less red tape equals less cost.
