I'm starting out on the process to find a good example of a E39 M5 and am keen to get any potential purchase inspected. I live relatively near Darjac racing and given various feedback on forums they would probably be the garage of choice for servicing and maintenance. I've tried emailing them trying to establish whether they offer a pre purchase inspection but had no response.
On a side note how do pre-inspections work? Given the nature of the car I would probably travel further than I would for 'mainstream' cars in an effort to find a good example but then is it a case of getting the nearest specialist to do the inspection or your specialist of choice travelling to the potential purchase?

thanks for any advice.

I had mine inspected by the nearest Indy - simply googled for an Indy, then googled the Indy name and found a few threads on various BMW forums which painted this particular Indy (Warne Motors) in a good light and simply went with them. Mine did a pretty good job, missed a couple of minor things but they where very minor imho.

Be warned Darjac do NOT have a garage as such and one or two customers have been left not over impressed with aspects of their cars after servicing. Quite simply with any 'non BMW trained technician' you pay your money and take your chance.

And how's that any different to BMW trained technicians or BMW dealers, other than you pay more money and take your chances wink

I was very happy with the work Darjac did on my Z3MC, and couldn't care less whether they have shiny facilities or not. Plus they're a third the rate of BMW.

I remember coming across Darjac when reading up about valve clearances on E36 EVOs. From what I recall the E34 M5 boys rated Darjac's work very highly indeed up with the best ie CPC, Bexley's etc.

Darjac split the E34 community and the M community right down the middle. Darren F has his fans and also those who would rather take their business elsewhere for a variety of reasons. Thats's life. I have never used Darjac, I know Farrell but like many people do not live anywhere near where his business is and prefer to use another M specialist.

That's all.

I won't let anyone else touch mine. If you want a really good job doing, Darren is your man. He is a perfectionist and will often tell you things you don't want to hear, but his work is first rate and he is a thoroughly decent chap to boot.

Does he have all the appropriate software to read fault codes etc?

Don't mention the £8,000 or so he charged a customer and then failed to mention the shocking underfloor rot on the drivers side!!!!

There is a difference between somebody who just does engine work and somebody who really looks all over a car from an owners perspective.

Pop onto the www.m5board.com and ask away.....a very split group of owners regarding who is good, who is excellent and who is well worth avoiding.

Can you offer anyone you would recommend? Preferably in the south east somewhere.
thanks

People will give you stories about all specialists.....the best thing you can do is talk to those recommended and make your own mind up based on what you hear.

I just wouldn't trust anyone else with mine and have always been really pleased by the work. I know of others who feel the same. I have had bad experiences with other specialists that people have recommended to me, but not with Darren.....he has always been very honest as far as I am concerned.

Martin @ Scott's Performance, without a doubt.

I've still never managed to get through to CPC by telephone.

Bexley Motors were good, but are starting to get a bit patchy.
