Just seen about a new tunnel opening up thats a mile long, but its somewhere 'darn sarth' again.

I know about the main tunnels through the centre of Leeds, but they're usually busy if you dont hit them in the early hours of a Sunday morning, and they're all 40mph limits.

Anybody know of some good long tunnels that are worth trying out for a good few seconds worth of orgasmic noise? Preferably in the South Yorkshire area?

not a million miles away are the 2 tunnels that go underneath the runways at Manchester airport. Working over there at the moment and take that way home whenever I need cheering up. Plus since its near Wilmslow/Alderley Edge there is always some tasty metal (normally driven by footballers) to play with!

What are the speed limits like under them? And any scamera presence?

there are no SCameras and never seen any police, speed limit is 40mph I think, but its dual carriageway so you can safely double that if its quiet.
Plus you have the added bonus of seeing planes take off 60ft above you if you time it right.

Not exactly a tunnel, but the lower deck of the Tinsley viaduct is covered enough to keep the noise in and is a good half a mile long. It is a dual carriageway so don't bother in the rush hours but other than that you can get a good run on there.

Ha ha! Done that one to death!!!!

Have a video of me shooting flames out the back across there! Will agree its good for the acoustics though! Just looking for something more enclosed!

I wonder if we could open up that emergency road that runs down the middle, just for our own pleasure?

Do try and find out if you can. Not sure how longer hoon I have time for on Friday, but definitely up for the tunnel if we can. You think we could drill a few holes in the Porkas exhaust system and patch em up before you take it back?

Yeah, done that one a few times, but bit short, low speed limit and traffic lights either end.

Good accoustics on that one though! Nicely enclosed!

Unfortunately can't get google map links on here, but if you go on google maps and type in `Swainsley Farm, Leek` and then go on the street view of the road immediately west of the farm to find the tunnel.

I know it's not South York's, but there are a couple of tunnels under the end
of the runway at Leeds/Bradford airport.

Could always tag it on to a run through the Dales if passing?

This is a dual carriageway, but with a 30mph limit.
Its so obviously a great place for a speed trap.
I stick to the limit because of this. I went through there 2 weeks ago and lo and behold there was a copper with a camera on the west side. I'd been through the day before and got overtaken by a Porsche doing 60+

My sister lives in Rawdon, by the airport, and when I visit I might drive through the tunnel to the roundabout broadly observing the limit and having noticed the absence of plod at the exit of the other bore. Then it's all the way round the roundabout and back through the other tunnel at full chat. Patience and cunning often the preserve of the older Porsche driver.
