Sierra LSD Questions
Discussion
Hi All
I have a 7" 3.62 Sierra open diff, with push in tripod driveshafts, and disc brakes.
What are my options for an LSD?
The previous owner had a Quaife ATB that worked with the current push in driveshafts, but I can't stretch to £800.
I can't pin down an LSD with push in shafts, so am I going to have to buy new driveshafts, hubs etc??
I think i could buy an LSD with flanges, and remove the flanges (by removing a circlip inside the case) to convert it to push-in? If I did this, could I keep my 3.62 crown wheel? I think that the LSD diffs have shorter driveshafts on one side. If I need to get the end of one of the driveshafts shortened I can do this at work.
Cheers
Tim

I have an XR4x4 one in mine hybrid to I think a 3.39 ratio. Works a treat if a little noisy and aggressive. Given the choice I would save up and get the Quaife. Although my car does FANTASTIC donuts!!
dude, its a Viscous diff. They are as quiet and non agressive as they get!Try a plated Gripper if you want noisy and aggressive!
really like mine though.
You can't fit push in type shafts to the Ford LSD, that's a non-starter. However, it's possible to create a hybrid driveshaft with Lobro joints on the diff end and normal drum brake type CV's on the outer. To do this you need the correct type of driveshaft though, there are two different splined ends and IME it seems that the majority of drum brake driveshafts don't fit. This might just be my bad luck however!
