Thanks, just thanks.

I know its not really anyone's doing, but just had the best driving ever up in the far North.

Felt like saying thanks to someone.

Hi,
Thanks, thats good too hear you enjoyed our roads.
Thing is when you stay here (Inverness) these roads are
a pain in the proverbial, even worse during the tourist season.
Give me a motorway anyday.
How far north did you get?
Andy..

I beg to differ!!! Have you ever been on the M25?! Embrace the Highland roads as some are the best in the country.

Looped up to Lochinver on one day, and toward the Kyle of Lochalsh and then went round the cost road to Applecross on another, seeing the Sub en route. Approx 200 mile loops on each of the two days.

Applecross Inn and Loch Ness Inn are seriously worth visiting for the seafood. Mmmmmmm.

Stayed in Drumnadrochit.

The roads were surprisingly clear, one of the guys we were with was at school at Fort Augustus back in the day so good hooning knowledge, but even he was surprised at the low traffic levels.

Maybe so but on a motorway you do not go round a corner at the NSL only to find a tourist travelling well below the limit
admiring the scenery or looking for a mythical monster. Don't get me wrong the roads here are good with no cameras and very little police presence, but during the silly season it is another matter.

It's just a question of when & where though, isn't it? I can go out at 7 am on a Sunday morning (even in August) and drive for hours without seeing a single car (I am west coast though, I know it's different on the east coast). Thing is, I've just spent a week in London and the roads are FULL on a Sunday morning. I mean road rage full... miles of traffic jams.

...and between now and Easter, up here, I'll generally see maybe 20 or 30 cars a day. Bliss.

Exactly my point. You can't compare 4 months of holiday traffic in the Highlands to the daily hell that is driving in certain areas down south!

You, Highlands in mid-summer is nothing compared to the West Country or Yorkshire/ Lake District on a weekend.

I live in Inverness and having lived south of the border for a while I appreciate the Highland roads and never complain about the traffic, even rush hour in Inverness is fine. I get to drive round the area as part of my job and and love every minute of it, had a brill run up to Grantown on Spey and Poolewe a few weeks a ago, Thurso last week.

Anyway you choose to Inverness, then A9 north to Alness, then over The Struie and A836 to Tongue and on to Bettyhill.

I did that a few weeks ago, between Bonar Bridge and Tongue I met 9 vehicles.

ViperP, what you doing in Bettyhill?

I love the Dingwall > Ullapool > Gairloch > Dingwall run. In reverse order, it's even better.
