PH Smiley stickers on glass - a question...

Hi all

I'm wanting a couple of small PH stickers for the rear quarter windows of the DS-Mobile.
There are some of these....

Does anyone know if when you stick these on if they are the sort where you apply them and then pull off the backing sheet and leave only the PH smiley shape behind? Or do you end up with a full square of decal? (I'm hoping this makes sense).

I'd like to achieve an "etched glass" effect. (I know there are etched glass stickers but at 3.5" they're too big).
