For the last two years I have driven round in my Audi S4 petrified that someone in a car park/on the road was going to damage/vandalise it (which they did).
Before that while passing from learner to late 20's petrol head I drove a string of hot hatches and RWD Jap Coupes that although cheap were my pride and joy and again I was petrified that they'de be damaged/stolen/broken into (which they were)
Earlier this year though I decided that I wanted to race in a proper car, so I got rid of of the S4 and bought a full space frame race car chassis to build for the RGB championship.
I also boughted a f
ked Peugeot 406 DT Estate for £500 (with 8 months tax and test) to drive around in....
...and oh what a liberating experience!
The Bad Parking Thread is now a source of fun rather than fear and warning.
The Misbadging Cars thread is now a source of inspiration (I now have an S406 DIESEL)
Its just a huge weight off my mind, no more caring were its parked, no more listening out for the tinyest rattle or whine (becuase it sounds like a tractor with on oil pressure problem already), no more cleaning, no more servicing, no more risk of speeding (its way too slow), no more monthly payments.... No more stress!
I now have the money to build something awesome and a huge weight off my mind.
I can seriously recomend to all PH'ers....

Buying a cheap car is great but there is still the problem of expensive fuel.t Car Now!So can you please check out the type of fuel pump you have as if the 406 has a Bosch you can use (used, liquid) vegetable oil instead of that expensive diesel, so potentially a big saving there and more money for the fun vehicle!

Completely agree with you.
I realise it's not that impressive but we really stretched ourselves when we bought our 02 plate Civic. Whenever we go anywhere in that I park in no-mans-land at the other end of the carpark.
With our old banger I park right outside the supermarket door between the Toyota Enemas and such. I even treat it as a sport squeezing the car in next to the tts who park over the line.
It also saves the worries associated with the wife driving around.

Driving a shed, and keeping your pride and joy for weekends and sunny days out is the way forward!
I wasn't afraid of parking my old Merc 200TE anywhere - the thing was carved from a single block of granite anyway and was about as appealing to a thief and a night in the cells! And it made me enjoy my Corrado on the occasions when I took it out even more

Same here.ts who park over the line.Although the Aston that did that at my local supermarket was a bit too special for me to risk.
I agree. Surely motoring nirvana is a cheap, scruffy snotter that's also fairly fast. I've been toying with the idea of a Granada 24v or a Senator 3-litre - cars you couldn't care less about denting the door of, but that go like poo off the proverbial when you hoof them so you're not in that state of st-car frustration on motorways, or being constantly humiliated by shopping cars away from the line.
