One thing is very important in as the UK's biggest supermarket - make sure you have an alcohol license

Otherwise the police will have you, regardless of how big a business you are

Also shows you how Tesco can still get their licence issued within hours - imagine how long it would take for your average publican or shopkeeper!

That store's very local to my work.

Guess I haven't been down the booze aisle at lunch this week because I didn't notice. smile

Shopkeeper, perhaps, but a publican's on-licence is a different matter isn't it?

If a normal shop on the corner was selling without a licence it would probably get a negative tag - why hsould Tesco get away with it?

At the very least its useful if it keeps tesco on their feet.

Makes you p*ss though doesn't it, an easy to sort out issue

http://www.chinchinjobs.com/news/Article/tesco-alc...

And the BIB rock up to deal rather than leaving it to someone like trading standards or handing it over to another agency.

or the no sign of the BIB, not our dept pass it on type of jobs

It really does seem like a misuse of resources in these times of cutbacks confused

I can see where P of D is coming from the council bullyboys probably p*ssed they didn't get the admin fee, bit like how the planning depts get, Have to keep the fee's racking up to top up the pensions smile

The whole civil/criminal law needs a coat of looking at.

PHers really need to get a grip - it was probably little more than a copper turning up, telling them to sort out their licence and then sticking some of those big metal cages in the way of the aisle.

I very much doubt any fight was put up by Tesco.

Talk about wasting public money. Shirley a phone call from who ever discovered the oversite to the store manager and the whole thing could have been sorted out without any need to send the rossers in.

"Due to the extended hours at the store and their new licence a meeting has been arranged with staff at the store, the local policing team and licensing officers to ensure that it has no adverse effects on the local community."
Now THAT is an over-reaction.

Store has no licence.

Store is stopped from selling alcohol until licence is procured.

Store starts selling alcohol again.

Why the fk is it necessary to have a "meeting with the store staff, policing team and licensing officers"? Did they get a disability awareness councilor, a five-a-day healthy eating officer and a sexuality awareness mentor in there as well? What sort of 'adverse effects' does the local community think it may have suffered?

The meeting is probably to do with how the rozzers will handle all the drunk chavs having around outside the store (later on at night, presumably).
