Seems that while BMW have recalled some BMW cars for duff fuel pumps, they don't see any need to address similar issues in the MINI which has led to a slip down the reliabilty rankings. Anyone here had these issues?

Americans tend to find more faults in their cars by equipping them with automatics and driving 40k a year with expectations of no maintenance.

Are fuel pumps checked or affected by non-service anyway?

Don't think he is. This is the nation that expects tyre (or is that tire?) life in excess of 50K miles.

The sort of people who buy minis over here are mainly the sort of people who probably don't wait 40k miles to get serviced. Average mileage is also only 12k a year.

25-30K per annum in the Cooper here, with regular 8-900 mile day stints. Very comfortable, too - but then I an relatively uncomfortable in barges with overlight steering, vast, overstuffed seats and questionable body control - something with unconsciously registering/compensating for random movement that cannot be directly linked to an event (i.e. driving over a bump)...
