Horn sounds when locking Boxster
Discussion
Hi,
I have the standard Boxster alarm system and when i lock the car off the key, the indicators flash twice and then a second later the horn lets off a brief toot, it is starting to bug me a bit and didnt happen when i bought it 3 months ago (its an 01'Y). Any ideas what is causing it? :-)

The reason why it beeps is if one of the lockable devices isn;t closed/locked. ie: the doors, centre holder by the handbrake or boots. Mine beeped and i feared the worst, it was just the centre holder not closed properly. A friend of mine has a boxster and his passenger door lock wasn't working so the alarm beeped when activated. just needed a new central locking device fitted in the door.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Many thanks, i at least now i know where to start checking, hopeing it isnt a new anything needed! That just sounds like one of those annoying dealer jobs taht cost loads!
Give it the once over and see, though when locking it, the fuel cover flap does make more noise than you would expect when locking, maybe check that too.!!
Cheers all

I've yet to check this out thoroughly but I was told by the mechanic who worked on my car recently that there were a couple of recalls for the earlier boxsters relating to the ignition switch and the trunking from the shell to the doors. Both these items can lead to the horn sounding if they are faulty (or damp) as they are involved in the check when the car locks itself. They can also present as problems with the doors un/locking and window operation.
You probably left the glovebox open though!

I was told, but have yet to do it due to the bank holiday, to ring your friendly OPC with your chasis number and have them check if all the recalls have been applied to your car. I am informed they will have a database with them on.

Has all the TSB's and Recalls for a MY01 'S'. I think the only recall relates to a tip' cable adjustment.

I will give them a call thanks, as its an 01 are they likely to turn around and say the car is too old for us to do any work on it?
I would certainly hope not - it's nearly new. There will be plenty of others who will be willing to do it though. Saying that, (I think) I have had a similar problem with an independant. My feeling was they were not really interested in an old Boxster (98) which I guess is worth ~£18k - not an inconsiderable sum by my standards, but it kept being delayed, by 5 weeks in the end for what I was told were all 'service items.' There seemed to be plenty of 911's going through the place though.
The expense >£3k and delay has soured ownership so much I am now looking for a 'sensible' car.
