Raw software for a beginer

My sister inlaw has taken to macro photography after i lent her my old camera and macro lense

So for her birthday she is getting to keep it and a decent tripod

However she has bugger all software on her PC, the PC is a bit on the ancient side.

So what simple cheap software would you reccomend for simple editing and exporting to a USB disk for printing.

Even a good nice of software for previewing the pictures and deleteing the pap ones as then she can send the good ones to me for editing and printing

Do you mean viewing RAW files, or something that will do the basics?

I'm a fan of Irfanview as an initial viewer, I see Picasa mentioned a lot but have never used it

RAW converters I use RAW Therapee and/or Lightroom, then export to Photoshop. PS Elements could be worth a look if not going the whole hog

Free, useful and with editing capabilities which are a little limited ( but good for beginner )- Fastone viewer.
If the camera is a Canon DPP is pretty good.

If you could get iphoto on a PC then that is where i would go

I pretty sure Picasa from Google does raw processing and editing. Free and simple to use as well.

Good call as you can get it for macs too so i can give advice over the phone

Non techy way is Picasa, though its a rough tool.

Canons DPP is superb for free if its a canon as stated.

Adobe do a free raw convertor but thats all it does and may leave her with more questions than answers...

Gimp is also an excellent freebie, very similar to Photoshop.
