inspection lamp

I need to get a new inspection lamp for use in my inspection pit. I have one of those lantern style ones with a standard bulb in but it blows a bulb everytime I put it down. Does anyone have experience with the LED ones you can get cheap of ebay?

I bought a basic £8 from Lidl mostly for working on my enduro bike and it's reasonable but not exceptional but at that price I wouldn't necessarily expect to to be.
The light doesn't penetrate that well so trying to see in and around the engine is better than nothing but could be better.
Even with the extra LED's I think I would want to try one before I bought one - I guess it's a bit like the comparison between halogen downlighters and the LED equivalent, which are like chalk and cheese.
What about trying a fluorescent lamp, either to replace your bulb or a complete unit.
You can get good outputs now and they should be less sensitive.

I tried a fluorescent bulb but it was too big so I couldn't shut the end that protects the bulb. Saying that that was a long time ago and now you can get the coil type ones rather than the traditional 4 prong jobbies. Thats probably worth a go before I bin it.

Have you tried simply replacing the bulb with an energy efficient one? I would imageine they could take more of a knock before blowing and you are also less likely to burn yourself.this sort of thing

B and Q sell a heavy duty bulb which doesn't go bang every time you put the lamp down.
I tried using normal bulbs and even the slightest knock buggers them. I've used one for these for ages and its still going strong even if it is covered in POR15
