Help with bad vibration

I have an awful noise/vibration which sounds like its coming from the centre of the dash (from the drivers position) Passenger says it seems to be directly in front or slightly left. It occurs between about 2000 and 3000 revs, beyond which it dissappears. It's very loud, sounds like inside the car but cant spot anything loose. I know the obvious answer is to keep the revs up, but it's doing my head in (I hate unexplained noises)

Any suggestions?

So it's related to engine revs, not the vehicle speed? Does it happen the same in every gear? Is it at the same engine speed in every gear?

I'm trying to isloate it down to engine / clutch (it would happen at much the same engine speed no matter what gear), gearbox (different engine speeds depending on gear), or propshaft / diff / driveshafts (if only related to vehicle speed).

Something to do with the centre speaker?

Its related to engine speed. although it isnt a mechanical rattle. It's something body related, like a loud lous buzz type vibration. Wondering if its bodywork (or something) in front of screen area?

Not that serious, it's a lighter note than would be generated by either of those, but keep em coming

erm... hesitate to say this but my other TVR does this from time to time and it's because the gear knob (or to be more accurate, the collar that covers the mounting screws) comes loose occasionally... it makes a loud buzzing noise that sounds bloody terrifying!

I've had mad noises like this if I've:

- not got the passenger side airbox quite tightened up properly at the back so it can vibrate against the bodywork under the dash at certain revs.

- got the removable panel thing under the bonnet not quite on straight and even.

That or the F2 panel, I think it is the F2 panel causing much the same noise as you discribe.

I find that driving every where north of 4000 rpm helps.

Yep. just had the panel off and I can see there is a soft pad missing and its been rubbing. Also looks like the airbox might be touching the inner wing too. There's a little project for me.
