Gear box leak part 2

Whilst i have my diff out, i have also removed the heat shield that needs to be repaired, i have been able to have a good look at the gearbox leak, although can't really tell where its coming from.

these are the photos i took see what you think and give me some advice. I ordered and oil seal but unfortunately i ordered the new one, and need the old one, is it worth changing from what you see

That looks like it is coming from the Engine end of the gearbox rather than the propshaft end.

Is that not a vent hole in the rear seal that should be at the top? I could be wrong on that though.

There's definitely a leak from the rear as it's wet around that seal and even with the airflow under the car it would be hard pushed to push up the tailhousing.

I'm in the process of replacing the input/output seals on my gearbox.
I was told by a TVR dealer 'they' always fit the 'new type' rear seal regardless of what was there before.

Anyone know any different ?

And just for info my hole was at the bottom

I just put a new type seal on mine to replace the long old one. It's been fine since.

Well since i have the new seal to hand, i'll change it any way, as well as the oil and see if there is any change in the leak. No harm in doing so.
