Arghh... Playstation 3 broken :(

Hi all

I'm devastated, my PS3 had a fit today. I was playing Fallout 3 when all of a sudden the screen when blank it gave of a few bleeps and the red light started flashing. Whenever i try and switch it on, i get the green light for a second then a white light followed by the flashing red one again.

Can anyone tell me what is up with it and if i am going to loose all of my saves, photos, films etc.

Your saves will be fine as it doesn't sound like it's the hard drive. Does seem like it's borked though if this thread is anything to go by:

Whip the HDD out, hook it up to your PC and back everything up, then if you're still within the warranty period, call Sony and see what they can do for you.

I'm gutted for you. My only advice is to google possible fixes with the symptoms you mentioned and see if there is an easy fix. Failing that try the Sony helpline. They at least may be able to rescue your saved data.

Take the hard drive out and confirm that for yourself. Sounds like tosh to me.
Likelihood of there being any problem with the hard drive is slim, something has probably just gone on the motherboard. The reason they say all your save files are gone is because they aren't willing to backup and restore your data. Doesn't stop you doing it though.

I urge you not to go the 60gb route again, all of them are ticking timebombs, time to upgrade to a new slim.

I will be checking it but not until i have a new machine, absolutely no one i know has a PS3, they are all 360 people.

As for what version i will go for, it will probably be the 60GB again, its just too useful, PS1 and PS2 games, card slots etc

Happened to me twice now, you learn to not get too attached to your offline data in case you lose it again. Take out an extended warranty.
