Replacement bonnet - E39

Hi chaps, 2 questions:

1) Is the bonnet on an E39 Sport the same as on the regular (SE) models?

2) Anyone got one in arctic silver (preferably in North Yorkshire!?)

Yes, its the same.

Sure it's arctic silver? Most Sport's are Titanium Silver.

All E39 bonnets are the same, no difference throughout it's whole production cycle 1996-2004. Just the kidney grilles changed in design but fit in the same apertures

You're right - it is titan silver, it was my old e36 that was arctic silver.

Can anyone shed and specific light on the grille differences?

The V8 models have a wider kidney grille.

Cheers Dave. Mine is a 6 but after a poke around on the net it seems I can get any bonnet and bang on my existing grilles.

No they dont - the wider kidney grille is across the range on facelift models.

The V8's have chrome slats on the kidney grille as the distinguishing feature.

I recall having the chrome slats on a 2000 528i SE, they looked quite tasty. E39 M5 had chrome slats too I think.

All V8's had chrome slats, all 6's had black slats.

A common modification is the V8 grille on a 6, so you often see 6's with the chrome slats.

OK, my 6 cylinder E39s had narrow grilles and black ribs, my V8 E39s had wider grilles and chromed ribs.

Having not owned a facelifted 6 cylinder E39, I missed the universal adoption - sorry
