mystery thermostat

ok I give up where the hell is the thermostat on an S2.

Here's a photo of my engine. I am assuming that the thermostat belongs behind the cover above the water pump.

However, the thermostat and seal I bought for my car doesn't seem to matck up.

Then you bought the wrong ones !

Seal is more or less an O ring from memory ?

Could you have been sold parts for the earlier 2.8 engine ?

Phillpot is right - seal is a rubber ring that fits round the edge of the stat before you put it in. There's no gasket.

got one of these from tvrcarparts:



it came with a rubber seal but also with a paper gasket that doesn't seem to match up with the cover.

Forget the paper gasket, as philpott says that's for a different application. Fit the rubber seal only.

ok cheers, will sort it out tomorrow.

Of course it would have been obvious if there had been a thermostat fitted in the first place but I guess the previous owner just decided to live without one.
