Viper Spliced To Vette In Unholy Marriage

What can we tell you? Not 'why', that's for sure...

This bizarre 'ViperVette' has been cropping up all over the internet, after being listed for sale on the Hemmings classified website in the US.

Which leads us to wonder what other 'Frankenstein monsters' might be lurking out there, so feel free to add examples of your own to the thread below.

Or perhaps you can only spare the time for a disparaging shake of the head as we share what little info the ViperVette advert has to offer...

Apparently the car combines a 1986 Corvette chassis, engine and dash, with a 2000 vintage Viper body - leaving the result slightly under-cylindered, if not necessarily (but probably) under-powered, with its 5.7 litre Chevy V8.

The interior has been cobbled together with a set of Corvette seats trimmed in Viper colours, and the whole plot is for sale at the not too extravagant price of $12,250.

So this is basically no different to an MR2 "Ferrari replica" then?

I'm never really one to say 'whats the point' as pointless cars are usually a great laugh and somehing of interest.... but I can't really see how this is better than either a 2000 Viper or an '86 Corvette?

I'm no fan but surely it's better than an '86 Vette because it looks like a Viper and it's better than a Viper because it's only a fraction of the price!

It would make more sense if it was the other way round, ie classic looks with modern performance.

Backwards Americans , I always thought it's better to have the internal components of a newer car and the body of older car

Or worse than an 86 Vette because its a cut and shut and worse than a viper becuase it has slower and older running gear.

I guess for someone with a C4 Corvette who wants a Viper looks but vette handling it makes perfect sense......

This was a 1994 Camaro on ebay in the US. No takers as far as I'm aware.

Not really. The Vette has a separate chassis. So to me this looks less like a body kit and a whole new body, alla kit car style.

C4's are right at the bottom of their depreciation curve, even in the UK you can get them for £4-5k, in the US probably cheaper.

But they are still a good RWD, V8 powered car. New body makes them look quite different.

Bit like buying a Cobra kit, but instead of making the chassis you use one that already exists and is good.

My only explanation for this bd love child would have to be that somebody had bought a cheep 'Viper' without the engine and transmission then fitted the 'Vette' engine as a cheep second hand unit to give them the look of the viper at a fraction of the cost!
The only problem is that im not sure it is as viper shell?yuck

This is truly odd. I presume that's a fiberglass splash off of a real Viper and not a real Viper body. Otherwise, why spend all the time and money adapting the Viper body to the Vette chassis, especially when remotoring the Viper (or whatever else it would take to make the donor Viper whole) would be so much cheaper and would leave you with a complete and functional Corvette and complete and functional Viper, both probably worth more than poor bd child by itself. That's pretty stupid.

Even a "kit" CorViper (I think I'll trademark that name, just in case) would be expensive and in the long run worth less, I'd think.

But please don't blame this on all Americans because after all, stupidity is universal.

Owners thought process :

1)I love Lamborghini's but I own a battered old Camaro.

2)I will build a 'Lambormaro'. When its finished most people will think its a Lamborghini,

3)I really believe that, I really do.

4)1 year on and I still believe it

4)18 months on and I still believe it although this is proving much harder than I imagined.

5)Ah there its finished...oh bo11ocks.

6)I'd better advertise it for sale or maybe swap it for some rope, a gun or directions to a cliff.

The worst of all worlds then.

An 86 chevy with a viper engine I might find more interesting.......

Buying a Viper is likely a lot more costly than buying a C4 Vette and making it look like a Viper....

Even more so if you already have a Corvette. So for an affordable amount more you can almost end up with a new looking car. And 90% of the people wouldn't be able to tell the different any how and it'll still be fairly quick (or very quick) and drive as well as a real Viper.

Ah, sweet jumpin' Jesus with egg in his beard. That is fugly. Having grown up in America I thought I'd seen the worst of automotive tastelessness, be it 'sheepskin' seat covers, crappy vinyl 'bras' on the cars nose, a weird predisposition for gold badging, chrome wheels (or riiims), a Latino trend for cars with tiny wheels that stuck way out the sides of the car, fake wood panelling vinyl stickers down the sides, etc. But this truly takes some beating.

That old Peugot 206 advert where the dude moulds his Hindustan Ambassador (IIRC) into a 206 lookalike with a hammer and help from an elephant sitting on it made a better hash of things.
