Gents,

I am into my 2nd month of owning a new C63 AMG, I paid just under 60k for it and i do love it but i cant help thinking i should of bought a 54 or 55 plate Gallardo.

Does anyone have a 54 or 55 plate G that would be interested in swapping for a weekend perhaps, assuming insurances etc are in place. ?

Why is that such a far fetched request ? The cars would be he same value, If anything the new C63 is slightly more than a 54 plate G

In 2006 i put out a simular request. I asked if there was anyone who wanted to swap there four seater F456 for my F355 spider for the WEEK!! I wanted to take my wife and kids across Europe in it!!
Well after two offers within the week the deal was done.
We swaped cars after insurance was sorted. Then i spent almost two weeks touring the Alps and Modena in Italy. Fantastic Ferrari holiday that i will never forget.
So you see there are people out there who might like the idea.

Well hopefully someone will come along who might fancy a few days in mine. There really is no other way of knowing weather i could live with a G or not without spending 2k on hiring one. You dont learn anything in a test drive,

One of the main reasons i would not do this is the clutch. You just would not know how your car has been driven. The gallardo owner has a heck of a lot more to lose in unseen damage than the merc owner.

I appreciate the concern for the welfare of the car but iv hand a few high performance cars which have had a very delicate and expensive clutch with lots of little ideosyncrasies you need to know before you drive them.

And to be honest i would only ever drive another persons car with the upmost respect. Its only going to cost me if something goes wrong isnt it ?

But with respect, the lender would only have your word to go on. I am sure you probably would treat the car with respect but to lend a car like that to a stranger would be madness. The borrower could take 10,000 miles off the life of the clutch without the lender even realising until his clutch prematurely dies in several months or years later.
I think this may be very tricky for you to achieve. Most people including myself were in the same boat before purchase. Just buy one, i guarrantee you will love it!

There is a huge element of trust involved, but then there is with both cars. My car eats tyres for a mid morning snack, and with traction control off the car resembles bambi on ice.

But i do feel that car enthusiasts do have an amount of trust in fellow car enthusiasts thats what this whole website was built on.

remember Chris Evans letting a group of strangers spend days in his rare ferraris, ?

Maybe you could agree to getting an indie/specialist to do a clutch reading before and after the weekend/days and if significant wear has been put on, then some sort of recompense could be agreed?

not that easy to read/measure clutch wear/life on a manual.

Yea that's rather a non argument, you get into something like this prepared to pay for any event/variable. Besides thats what insurance is for in any extrem problems.
While in Maranello i payed almost 2k for a set of tyres for the 456. It was no drama, i just did it. Equally the guy who was using my Ferrari respected and took care of it.
All said and done its down to the two people who want to do a swap. If you srike up a good relationship and have a good feeling about each other. Then it works, my extreme example is proof of that.
