Well, I've finally got myself a classic TVR.
It's taken me a few years of on and off looking but I have finally bought a MkI Vixen....in bits...at the other end of the country.
The car is completely dismantled and not rolling so would have to be lifted or trollyed onto any transporter.
So I am wondering whether anyone has any experience/recommendations on how to move it, or maybe knows of a good firm for doing the job.

Oh and as far as the "My Vixen is in a worse state than your Vixen" competition goes I'll let you know after saturday, I'll post up some pics then.

I got a few quotes from various recovery and classic car specialists when I had to shift the M Series I bought a couple of months ago. Prices varied from around £2.00 per mile to £350.00 for the 120 mile distance. In the end, I borrowed a van and trailer and it just cost me the diesel - £40.00! If you have a look on the net there are companies who can arrange moving it (incl. bits) but I preferred to have the hassle of it myself, in return for knowing I could keep an eye on the car for peace of mind.

+1 for what flyingplum said - move it yourself - no one will be more careful with it than yourself.

Not trying to plug my business as we hire Ifor Williams trailers. However if you Google 'trailer hire' and your closest city, you should hopefully find someone locally who can help. You may be best to look for a tilting flatbed transporter as they're the most versatile but you will need to think about how best to load. Expect to pay approx £40 for the day.

I was begining to think this was the right approach. Its 240 miles so a 2 day delivery for anyone with a tacho and I was looking at quotes of around 600 quid irked

I can see how it comes to that easily, but hells teeth!

I don't have a feeling for how heavey the tub and chassis are. Can you lift them with two people? Also I was wondering if it would fit in the back of a self drive van?

Anyone fitted adismantled Vixen into a Luton??

I've moved my Grantura when it was completely dismantled. It took 3 of us to move the body and chassis. We used a long bit of wood at the back with one person on each end and one person holding the chassis at the front, however it was easier when there were 4 of us there.

So, here the answer to the question of whether a dismantled Vixen Mk1 fits in a Luton......
