Just sold my Crossfire, and have 10k-11k to spend on a new car. Ill be needing it for the following:

- Long distance travel every other week with work
- 30 mile commute round trip per day (motorway mainly)
- Weekend trips out
- Carrying one child and occasionally 2 additional adults
+ willing to compromise between performance (ecconomy) and quality

Any advice? Im struggling to be honest.

11k can get you a 57/58 plate low mileage ( under 20k ) Mazda 3 MPS like:

They don't look like the most exciting cars but are utter sleepers

260hp FWD w/ LSD
5 seats
Good basic spec (Bose, part leather, A/C climate all as standard)
Bloody fast smile

The only down side I can see to them is the VED is a little high, you can get it in Mazda 6 form (saloon) with AWD too.

E46 BMW 330Ci, or even an Alpina B3S (if you don't mind an auto) or M3 (if you don't mind it being a bit more used)?
