Hello,
My Query is i own a Audi A4(09) with the FSI engine at about 6000 miles the oil light came on asking for about a ltr of oil, i obliged and carried on, at about 11000 miles the same again. I asked the garage where i bought the oil from if there was something wrong he said they all do it. My question is should i be worried or is that correct.

Don't know if they all do it but some certainly do according to several threads I've read on the topic.
We have two high mileage Rover 620ti in my family, one with 178,000 and the other with 155,000. Oil use between changes is hardly noticeable and the cars earn their keep, being used daily for business trips. We do change the their 10-40 Semisynthetic oil and oil filter every 6-7000 miles which is well short of the recommended intervals for most cars ~ That I feel helps.
My wife's MG ZS bought new in 2003 with the "They all do that!" 1.8 K-Series does not use any oil ~ I renew oil and filter every 5-6000 miles and the car is showing 50,000 miles. I've used XPart 10-40 semi throughout.
By the way, they do not ALL do that ... only some ...
Keep an eye on it though in case it's something more serious.

from my experience (as the owner of a car parts shop)it seems all vag group engines like a drink quite regularly. my advice would be to dip the oil once a fortnight mate, cos once that light comes on ,the damage is being done.we are seeing more and more late model car owners buying top up oils and it seems to include any car which is running on 5w30 or 0w30 synthetics.
Modern engines seem to use an awful lot of oil, especially when very low mileage. I'm not sure if this because the use such thin oil (5w30) or possibly because there appears to be no official 'running in' of the engine these days. VAG products do seem to use an awful lot of oil, especially the diesels.
