For a recent birthday, I was given a book celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the World Cup Rally. In this, mention is made of the Taunus 20M RS model which won the 1969 Safari Rally. I have managed to find some details of the 20 M model but nothing on the RS variant - can anyone point me in the right direction? I know the 17 M uses a 1498 cc V4 similar to that used in the Saab 96 V4 and the 20 M uses a V6 version but it would be interesting to discover what tricks this RS version had.

The Taurus is rare thing, only ever seen one in the UK many moons ago, looked a bit like a Corsair. I saw one at the Ring a few years back don't now what model it was, but it had a tuned Pinto engine and four spoke RS alloys.

That particular Taunus was the P7 family, and the P7b RS (basically, a P7 Mk II) used either the 2300cc high-octane high-compression engine, or the 2600 high-compression engine, producing 108hp and 125hp respectively. This compares with the standard 1800cc and 2000cc engines available to standard 20M Taunuses.

I'm not sure which model of Taunus this is but it was at Bromley Pageant , a super rare car and I wasn't that sure what I was looking at spec wise being that they are so rare.

this site may be helpful , as they had more over there.

also some useful forums on the Uruaguyan site if you can wade through the Spanish language

Yes, that's a Taunus with a V6 engine, P7b edition Coupe, and looks like a 20M (front fogs give it away.)

Just finished it at the weekend - really enjoed it. It he;ped that last week my local HRCR group had the author, Graham Robson, giving a talk - it really bought home how much of a 'one off' this event was. Thanks for all the responses onthe RS version - I now understand what was different about this model.

I bought this car yesterday, Taunus 20M RS 1969. I was wandering if you could tell me something more about these cars, how many RS were produced and how many still exist. What is it worth?

I recently bought Taunus 20M RS (the black one above), and yesterday found one rotten hardtop for donor. Some good parts but still need a lot. The RS has small black seats but the hardtop has much bigger seats. I like the form of the hardtop seats much better. I was hoping if anyone has interior photos of these cars. And where is best to find parts?
Thanks

These Taunus Coupes were made alongside the TC (Taunus Cortina) models until around 1971/2 and were replaced by a Coupe version of the TC. The 20M was a big tank of a thing - I recall a Tawny Bronze one at a breakers in Bicester that ended up being bangered. That was a '71 K, LHD with a carbed Cologne V6.
They were okay, but were nothing like as nice as the Opels of the same period - the Rekord and Commodore Coupes were so good looking and are worth very strong money in Germany. The Taunus by comparison isn't, and they were poor sellers when new. Ford really struggled in Germany back then.
