Hello

In my loft (which has been converted) there are storage cupboards in the eves. Looking inside I can see at either end of the eves there is a hole about 3" in diameter that go through the brickwork to the outside. One end seems to have a grill on the outside, the other is open.

Do I need these holes for ventilation? I am worried about wasps and heat escaping. Should I fill or cover with a grill?

cheers

It's difficult to know without seeing the detail of the construction - but generally yes, the ventilation will be required (by the building regulations too possibly) and is sensible anyway. The 'grills' should prevent insects of wasp size getting in. You could add some mesh if they don't.

Purchase a 9"x9" louvered vent that has the mesh backing (B&Q/Wikes/builders merchant) - strip mesh off and use to cover the holes (if not enough space to fit a vent) or contact These chaps and ask for a sample.

B&Q also sell mesh sheets in several different styles.
