We are seeing this more and more at work at the moment.
People are getting Banned for whatever reason and once the ban is up , then they just get in their cars/bikes and carry on as normal and they easily fall foul of the Law.

Does anyone....or do most people know what you have to do once your Ban is up before you start to drive?

Find an old scrapper, not registered to anyone for three or for ownership changes......
Then learn to run as fast as you can with the ability to clear 8 six foot garden fences rapidly and carry a tennis ball with you just in case dog section happen to be within your vicinity.

Am I close Tony??

Um redo driving test?

gone Liebchen - You just outlined why banning people for 4 just-over discrepancies is so bad. And why there are so many accidents which were not caused by these people in the first place!

You are turning us all into right little criminals!;

Serious question here,

I picked up a 2 month ban a couple of years ago. After the ban expired, I simply re-insured my car (ouch ouch) and assumed everything was then smiley.

Is there another action that has to be taken then?
(Implied in the first post)

*looks quite worried*

You have to re-apply to DVLA for your licence.
If you do not, then should you be stopped you would be guilty of driving without a licence (strict liability applies)

So a ban actually means that you lose your licence? Is getting it back a formality? If so then it's just a stealth tax.

Sadly, it is a stealth tax...no ifs or buts about that one.
